For the first time ever the Global Time Attack and Super Lap Battle Championship Finals will be taking place at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. While this may be the second time GTA has visited Buttonwillow and the ninth annual iteration of the iconic Super Lap Battle it is the first time these two events have come together to present a time attack and we could not think of a more fitting a circuit than Buttonwillow’s 13CW configuration.

Why did SLB dip their chocolate in GTA’s peanut butter? The reason is simple. Because chocolate and peanut butter go great together. And it was about time that America’s most established time attack event merged with the country’s largest national time attack series.

Don’t worry, young Jedi. Everything you’ve come to love about the Super Lap Battle and Global Time Attack are still intact in this collaboration. The event will still go down on the Wednesday following the SEMA Show (November 7). All of the current sponsors and promotional partners are still involved and as always the SLB will enjoy the finest media coverage from no less than Super Street, Import Tuner, Modified, european car and Honda Tuning.

GTA will bring live coverage of the entire event on the GTA Live! live stream Web broadcast. We will crown our 2012 Championship Chase victors and our complete $10,000 in cash prizes and contingency awards will be showered upon our podium winners (in addition to a fair bit of champagne).

Merging GTA with SLB is not without its challenges as the GTA ruleset differs slightly from the SLB rules. Since the event is the Super Lap Battle finals the organizers decided to adopt these rules for this special GTA SLB Championship Final. You can find the complete Super Lap Battle rules here.

As only fitting for an event of this stature the GTA & SLB 2012 Championship Finals at Buttonwillow will feature more than 50 of the top time attack teams in the world. Just some of the confirmed teams include the GST Motorsports Impreza; UMS Racing Evo; Snail Performance WRX; the Evasive Motorsports FRS and S2000; Project Import S2000; WORLD Racing tC; Night Motorsport STI; JDM Factory Evo; DNA Motoring S2000; Bobby Lane Racing Accord; two Eibach Civics; both of the Snail Performance/Forced Air Technologies WRXs; Thomas Smith Racing’s STI; Massimo Power Evo; Modified Magazine’s Evo; the Prima Racing x Tuner Playground S2000; the momofoolio Racing S2000; Circuit Dreams RSX; Tuner Playground/Prima Racing RSX; HG Motorsports Abarth and many more.
