Each year in advance of the Long Beach Grand Prix the organizers hold a media day. Journos are treated to rides around the legendary street course in a wide variety of cars, including some Formula Drift powerhouses. This year Dwight Tanaka of Tanaka Racing invited us to watch his son Jacob (last name Tanaka) run around the course in advance of its Global Time Attack debut.
The car has run at Formula Drift with such drivers as Conrad Grunewald and Alex Pfeiffer and most recently the team took the 2011 Redline Time Attack Modified Class Championship with Jacob at the wheel. This year the team is committed to run with GTA at both Buttonwillow events in addition to Road Atlanta and Palm Beach International Raceway. Did we mention they have the Best Team Mascot Ever!
Here’s Jacob with the car. The car currently runs Nitto NT-01 and they’ve enjoyed a long partnership with the tire maker. However Jacob did confess that if Nitto made a slick he’d like to take a shot in the Unlimited RWD class. We can’t wait to see how they do in Buttonwillow.
We’ll leave you with this quick clip of the Corvette prowling the streets of Long Beach. But if you want to see it at full speed you’ll need to be at Buttonwillow on April 21-22.
